PALMERSTON STATE SCHOOL v. FOXTON STATE SCHOOL.
A very enjoyable and well-con-tested match between teams repre* Banting these schools was played on Saturday afternoon on the racecourse. The game was played in two spells of 85 minutes, and resulted in a win for the visitors by the 6 points to 5, representing 2 tries for Palmerston and 1 goal for Foxton. During the second spell severe squalls of sleet and bail somewhat interfered with tha pleasurable progress of the game, but everything otherwise went •• merry as a wedding bell." The boys on both aides played like gentlein6b, )grapjflirig ; an<| squabbling beipg conspicuous by their, absence, whilst the whistle of the referee was attended tojn every instance without the slightest murmer or dispute. The visitors' score was made up of two tries, one in each spell, wbich 'were obtained by Max and Lee, but were not converted; and Keeling, Young, and Weight were the pick of team m which all were good. The Foxtonjipore was one goal, kicked by Williams " from a try obtained by Symofts. These two with Scannell, Thvjane. and Furrie were the pick of tha'j/migii 3?he post of referee was Blled »imirably by Mr Mitchell, whose*€fceisions were marked by stringent impartiality and fairness. Messrs Little and Bradcoek 'rindly acted as line* umpires. On their arrival by train the Palmerston boys were hospitably entertained by the local boys, in one of the school classrnoms.
