Fires in Palmerston.
At 1.80 a.m. on Monday morning the Empiie .Hotel, Palmerston, wag totally *cte<tr6yetf by fire, and two men, Matfftce Gbnnen, and a traveller whose name is Walker, were burnt toatfttft ■*'-
The fire started in the sitting room facing Main street, but how it started is at presr i/» unknown* Ihe building was insured for £2000. The same night the premises of Mr Harty, in the Square caught fire, which spread to Mr Haydon's store and Guy and Haggitt's offices. This block was destroyed. Captain Mowlem owned the premises.
