A very large majority of officials of the Post and Telegraph Department in Palmerston have decided to support Mr J. H. Steven?, post* master at Feilding, for the Board of Appeal. Thomas Jolly, one of Waikato's oldest settlers, was gored by a Jersey bull in a stockyard at Frankton. Mr Jolly went to turn the bull out of the milking yard, when it attacked him and pinned him against the wall of the shed. One horn entered his body, ruptured the liver, and injured the intestines generally. Mr Jolly still lingers, but at -♦ latest advices he was not expected to live through the night. The Hon. J. Carroll was entertained at a banquet at Greymouth on Wednesday night. About 70 were present. The Premier was also there. The Ministers were very guarded in regard to the future. The Premier, however, declared that the reform of local government would be embodied in a policy Bill next session. The Bill would be based upon a modified provincialism, - a reduction in the number of local * bodies, and provision for greater revenue. A miner named Sidney McKerchey was lulled by a fall of earth in the Home Rush* Colliery yesterday afternoon. Thi Wellington City Council have granted permission to the Garrison Band to play in the Basin Reserve to-morrow and make a collection in aid of i heir uniform fund.
