[ I The ordinary monthly meeting , | was held lasb night at the Library - Buildings at 7.30. i Present— The Mayor (T. P. Wil--1 Hams), Ora McMillan, McPheraon, ' Bradoock and Jenks. '
The minutes of the last meeting was read and confirmed. Mr T. Westwood wrote, asking for permission to erect a verandah and horse-posts at his premises facing Whyte and Main-streets. The request was granted, subject to its being carried out irraccordanctf with the bye-laws. The clerk mentioned that Mr Forster had made an application for the use of the Coffncil's mbhflSy* frame, and on the motion of Cr Bradcock, seconded by Or McPherson, the application was granted. Mr H. Coley's letter* applying for permission to fence off part of an utilised street adjoining Cook's pad* dock was held over. The ranger sent in a complaint regarding a number of cows that are continually grazing on the roads is charge of a little boy, who made a pretence of driving them when he was seen to approach. From the Public Works Department as to the advisability of the services of an engineer being engaged to make a survey of the sites for the proposed bridges. The clerk of the Municipal Asso - . ciation, Wellington, sent copies of the business transacted at the Conference. The Mayor proposed — That in the opinion of this Council the resolution forwarded to the Premier by the Good Templars to the effect that license fees from hotels should be paid into the Consolidated Fund has been done without due consideration, and is not conducive with the best interests of the burgesses, and that this Council disapprove and protest against the same, and that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Premier. Seconded by Cr McMillan, and carried unanimously. Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by the Mayor— That a Committee be formed consisting of the Mayor, Cr McMillan and the mover, to rearrange matters in connection with the Public Library, to meet at the Library Building at 7.30 p.m. on Friday next. Carried. Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Bradcock— That the ranger be instructed to impound all stock found running on either the Public Be* serves. Carried. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by Cr McPherson— That Cr Jenka sign cheques and vouchers during Cr Hamer's absence. Carried. The following accounts were passed for payment : — J. Sullivan, £6 16s 3d ; C. Spring, £9 19s ; U. Farmers' Alliance, £I.;;T.<F^GBf-"3 son, £6 5s ; J. McGill, £8 Ids 6d ; charitable aid to Mrs Young, £1 6s 3d ; ditto to Mrs Forhmaon, 17s Bd.
