♦ ■,, .Quite ;a. batch- ,of : official , apjjtointirients -were 'made'-by- Ministers* in Cabinet yesterday.. , , ' ; IV was decided tb : appoint Colonel Fraser, ex-M.H.R. for Te Arpha^ to the 1 position of Sergeant-at-Arrns, just vacated by. the death of Lieut.--Gotonel^ ,Qi»ne«y> hand tan apnfer upon Mr Thomas Bracken the appointment of Header and Clerk of Bills and Papers, which was resigned by Mr E. D. O'Rorke at the end of last session. It was also resolved to appoint Dr Cahill, of Wellington, to the office of Chief Medical Officer to the Government) Insurance Department, which
was left vacant last week by the death of Dr Henry. Dr James was appointed advising medical officer to Captain Holliday, Health Officer at the Port of Wellington, and Dr Wilford received the appointment of Vaccination Officer for the City of Wellington. These last two offices were previously held by the late Dr Henry. Colonel Fraser will enter upon his .new position with a thorough knoWledge of the forms of the House of Representatives. He has held a seat in that Chamber since 1881 and has thus served through four Parliaments. Mr Thomas Bracken has also served in Parliament, where some years ago he held one of the Dunedin City seats. His literary qualifications are well-known throughout the j Colony. . Of thet medical gentlemen who have received official appointments one need only say that in Wellington they are held in high respect both socially and professionally. I We understand that a reduction has been made upon, the total amount of the appropriation for the above five offices. — Times.
