The following resolutions were passed : — Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Hamer, That the timber and metal be supplied to Mr Hillary for curbing footpath in Union-street in terms of his letter. Cr Austin desired the resolution to be held over till next meeting or he would vote against it. Cr Jenks, Hamer and McMillan thought that Mr Hillary was entitled to assistance seeing that he had been improving his property in that neighborhood. The Mayor thought it was the duty of the Council to assist those who were willing to help. Mr Hillary had promised to find all the labor if the material was supplied. Cr Austin doubted if the Council was in a position to find material for all who would find labor. Proposed by Cr Williams, seconded by Cr Jenks, That if Coley's account be authorised by Mr Nye it be paid. Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Bradcock, That the amount of 30s be expended in forming siding on public road at north east end of Mr E. S. The Mayor said the road now used through Messrs Robinson's land was private property. The old road laid on the other side of the sandridge and would cost hundreds to make. The County Overseer said this road would cost too much to make. He believed a transfer of roads would be beneficial to both Messrs Robinson's and the public bodies. Cr McPherson said he would like to see the roads first. Cr Austin said the proposal would have his heartiest support. He thought we ought to do our best to secure the road to the beach. Proposed by Cr Jenks, seconded by Cr Hamer, That a committee be formed consisting of — The Mayor, McMillan, and Austin, to interview Messrs Robinson Bros, re exchange of roads leading to sua beach.

Cr Austin said he also would have to resign if the resolution was passed, he could not get to his house in the evening. The Mayor said that there had been a desire on the part of Councillors to hold meetings in the evening. During the past these had given way on account of Messrs Nye and Austin, and now they should not be taxed with selfishness in asking for evening sittings. The motion being put was lost, the Council not being unanimous and it was left as notice of motion for next meeting.
