There seems to be a very serious drawback to the usefnllness of the smokeless ... powders.,.. pn.„wJlJ-ch the military authorities of the world have expended': so mitoh-. money lately. v)ne o? the* latest discovered of these is that in some way it injures the gnus in which ifc i.s used. A French newspaper says that this powder has done great damage to the steel guns of the Italian army, that at least five hundred pieces of artillery have been rendered practically useless by it. .... .■-<•:'■.;
