Tuesday, August 22. The Speaker took the chair at 2.30 p m. The Mangafcu No. 1 Empowering li'll was read a third time and pr ssed. The Alcoholic Liquors Sale Control 13 11 was further considered in commifctee. The Premier moved in the interpretation clause that ' The Licensing Act, 1881,' be struck out, and the words ' this Act ' inserted, and after discussion was agreed to. After a long discussion, the proposal in the Kill, that the electoral districts should be the licensing districts, was carried by 89 votes to 28, Sir Eobert Stout's amendment being lost. Clause 4 was amended so as to provide that a sudden increase of population in any district should not justify the issue of a publican's license if the electors had previously determined that no license should be granted. la cause 6, a new subsection, providing that the elections shall be con ducted in the same manner as those for the House of Represenfcatives, was agreed to. Clause 7 having been passed, progress was reported, and the House adjourned at 1.55 a.m.
