« HOUSE OF EEPEESENTATIVES. Fkiday, July 20. The Speaker took the chair at 2 30 p.m. The following Bills were read a first time :— North of Auckland Counties Vehicle Licensing Bill ; Tairua Land Bill and Wilson Land Bill; Customs and Excise Duties Act Amendment Bill. The following members were appointed a manufactures and industries committee :— Messrs Lawry, Duncan, Mitchelson, O'Conor, E. M. Smith, Pinkerton, Tanner, and the Hon. W. P. Beeves. Before the motion was agreed to, there was considerable discussion on the whole question of Freetrade and Protection. Sir John Hall and Mr Buckland were removed from the proposal, at their own request, and it was suggested that Sir Eobert Stout and Mr Wilson should be asked to become members of the committee. The Financial Debate was then resumed.
