Several leading Russians have equipped an exhibition to be under the com maud of Colonel Yanon, for ah eight months' stay in the Pamirs, with the intention of permanently possessing the country. The expedition will have instructions to establish military stations pn the road to India, commanding Baroghil Pass. The advance will be further than that in 1891. Military stations are to be established at Sarhad and Wathara. Information from Bangkok states that King and Court are preparing to leave the capital of Siam, and that reinforcements are being sent to B^ttambong, owing to the attitude of the French gunboats being provocative. An answer to the French ultimatum is expected by the Frenoh Government on Sunday. The Times insists that France cannot thus be allowed to close the door to British trade in South' western Cbina. The General opinion is that China is disposed to help Siam.
