Mr Gordon Mackay, a millionaire has given £400,000 to Harvard University. An epidemic of typhoid fever has broken out in Chicago, and is assuming alarming proportions. The outbreak is attributed to sewer gas. The Novoe Vrempa says that M. Ferry aims at an alliance between France and Germany, and is unfit to be trusted with power. France and Siam will submit the dispute respecting the frontier boundary to arbitration. M. Ferry urges that the Senate has proved a safeguard to the Ke public during the Panama crisis. Bankers in Germany and France are requesting the United States to repeal the Sherman Silver Act. Replying to a question in the Reichstag as to whether Germany would be prepared to join England and America in referring special disputes to arbitration, the Chancellor, Count Von Caprivi, aaid the Government would be willing to do so, except in regard to Alsace, which Germany would give her last drop of blood to keep.
