Presentation.

A pleasing little incident occurred at the State School yesterday afternoon Some days ago Mr W. Stansell, junior assistant, received information from the Secretary of the Education Board that he had been promoted to the mastership of the Pemberton State School, and it having become known that he was to leave for his new sphere of labour this day (Saturday), the children quite spontaneously formed the happy thought of signalizing their good- will by making him a little presentation before his departure. Accordingly they contributed a very respectable sum in threepences, sixpences, and shillings, and, the teachers cordially joining in, a valuable set of stud.-] and sleeve -links was p ocured from Wellington. Before the break-up for the day, Mr Stewart assembled the children of the standards in the main -class room, and on behalf of the teachers and children made the presentation to Mr Stansell in a short speech expressing the high opinion he had himself formed of Mr Stansell and the cordial and kindly esteem in which he was held by his fellowteachers and all his pupils. Mr tansell having made a neat and appropriate reply, ringing cheers were given in his honour again and again, md af er a tew more cheers for all and sundry, the pleasing ceremony was over and the school dismissed. Mr Stansell left for Pemberton by train this morning, taking with him the hearty good wishes of many friends whom ho has made in Foxton by his geniality, courtesy and sterling qualities.
