The Freeman's Journal states that the Home Eule Bill will be pressed through committee in the face of all obstacles. The excitement in Ulster is increasing Professor Goldwin Smith expresses the opinion that Ireland will not remain a vassal to England, but eventually will become independent. The St. James' Gazette asserts that the payment of members in the Victorian Parliament has utterly - failed to secure the representation of the masses. Dr Kane has issued a manifesto to Orangemen and Loyalists in Ireland claiming either the retention of tne present union with Great Britain or freedom to direct their own course amongst the free peoples of the world. It adds they should resist to death any attempt to force a bastard combination of the two. The Government will appoint a commission to suggest a scheme for the amalgamation of the City and Greater London. Tbe Right flon J. W. Mellor, M.P. for Sowerby, has been elected Chairman of Committees in the House of Commons.
