The full amount collected up ; to Tester.-^ day 'afternoon was - £62 5s 6d, "and- the Mayor was at once enabled to send another £30 to the Hon. W. P. Reeves, to be for; warded to Brisbane. This makes £60 in all sent so far from Foxton, and is more by a great deal than many towns of a larger size have sent. As will be seen above Mr T. P. Williams has been canvassing for the Queensland Relief Fund for the last two days in the Levin, Kereru and Shannon districts, and was accompanied by Mr Gillespie, who was taking the agricultural returns. Mr Williams succeeded in collecting close on £14, principally in the above districts. Although, the amount is not large,, it^hafj only been added to the", fund" at " considerable trouble, as the"settlersliive x s3 far apart, and in many cases through bush traoks. He informs us that he believes he would not have had the slightest difficulty in collecting a much larger sum had he gone orit sooner, as many persons had already st\S- j scribed, several sending £5 ss. Mr Williams states he was repaid for his trouble by the kind hospitality shewn him by Mr McCormack; at Levin. It is Mr Williams' intention to forward a copy of this issue to each subscriber.
