Foxton Borough Council.

A special meeting of the Council was held at thß Library Building 3 yesterday afternoon, whan the installation of the Mayor (Mr G. Nye) took place. Present— The Mayor, Crs Williams, Austin, Stansell, Ahem, and McPherson.

The Cle k said the meeting was called as was necessary by the Act for the installation of the Mayor.

The Mayor then made the usnal declaration, and took his seat.

Cr Williams said he had great pleasure in congratulating the Mayor on the position he had been elected to fulfil, and would on every occasion orive him what help he could in the Council. Crs Austin and Ahem also spoke in a similar strain, and promised to assist him in any way in conducting the public business, The Mayor, in a few word?, thanked them for their remark*. The Councillors coulr. in a great measure help him in his duties, and he would continue, aa he had tried in the past, to do his best fjr the Borough. (Applaus"©! The i lerk brougWfc bsfore the meeting a letter J*er had received from Mrs Young, asking for charitable aid, and tha matter was leftover until the next ordinary meeting of the i'ouneil.

The following tendpi*3 were then opened: — No. 1 contract: Avenue road, metalling 25 chains, at 4s 9d pev yard. No. 2 contract; : Motoa and WiroVmo road, 15 chains, 4s per yard, J. Anderson.

On the proposition of Or Williams, seconded by Cr Austin, the tenders of J, Anderson was accepted. For lighting the street lamps for one year, two tenders were received as follows : J. McGill, £35 2s ; J. W. Watson, £38 10*. Proposed by Cr Austin, seconded ! by Cr Williams, That the tender of John McGill be accepted for lamplighting for the next year at £35 2s. Carried. Only one tender was received for collection of the dog tax, from W. Altfdorf, at Is per dog, and this tender was accepted on the proposition of Cr Williams, seconded by the Mayor. Before the meetiug adjourned it was decided that the day men of the Council be allowed two days, 26th December and 2nd January, without a reduction of pay. The Council then adjourned.
