Foxton Public Hall.

Elsewhere will be found an advertisement notifying the fact that the mortgagee intends selling this property at an early date. The hall was originally erected by a company, which, after a time was wound up and the property passed into the hands of five.persons. In the course of time many bad periods had to be passed through and the present owners cannot be held responsible for the action now taken. The public are not likaly to be the least interested in either the success, or failure of the past owners, but every one— settler, tradesman, or hbtelIteeper — must be interested in keeping a public hall in the town. As the private individuals have shown their inability, it becomes imperative that it a public hall is to be retained, some action, such as forming a company, should be taken. A little public spirit would secure what is admitted a boon , and ma ny sub scribera would lighten the burden. We do not foreshadow good interest, because facts have proved otherwise, but money invested generally in a public building brings many hundreds into the town for distribution. We understand that the hall will be sold for any purpose, so that, unless something is speedily done, the town may discover that they have no spot in which meetings , enter tainmen ts ,; &c, can bo held, and then they may oonsider the advisability of building another. Surely it would be wiser to endeavour to secure the one we have;
