Foxton Borough Council.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Council was held at the Library Buildings yesterday at 2 p.m. Present— The Mayor (G. Nye), Crs Austin, McPherson, Abern, Btansell, Williams, and McMillan. That your resolution' ~rt "cattle on roada during the daytime, has proved beneficial to the interests of the Borough by keeping down the growth of gras3 on the roads and Would recommend that it be continued for a longer term. 2. Tenders to include 4iO yards for repairs as follows : 140 yards for repairs to Wirikino road, 50 yards for repairs to Motoa road, 250 yards for repairs to Wirokino road. Proposed by the Mayor, seconded by- Cr, William?, That, the -^VprJis Committee meet at 2 p.rti/bri-'the 21st of December to accept tenders for metalling or other works. Proposed by Cr Stansell, seconded by Cr Austin, That owing to the ' statement that His Worship cannot give the time for taking out estimates or plans that the Clerk- be empowered to employ a qualified person to perform such duties when required. On a division being called — Ayes : "McMillan, McPhersnn, Ahern, and Stansell. Noes: Williams and Nye. The resolution was carried. Proposed by,Cr Williams, seconded by Cr Stansel 1 , That this Council think it advisable to go in i>r a loan of £1500 for the fini-hing of roads and water scheme. Cr Williams said it had been stated that the Council were., against a loan, and he moved the resolution to test the feeling, fte believed the Council was thoroughly in favour nf a loan and he was willing to do bis best in raising this loan. Cr McMillan said be was in favor of a loan and the Council he was sure was always in favor of a ldan. The Mayor thought the resolution might stand over ns, as far as the roads were concerned, by the; time the loan was raised it would be" too late to do anything. ;t T : ..< ; . Cr Austin said if we never borrowed or neyer improved we would never progress. Because If 'if 4 aite afraid to go in for a loan we are too. much handicapped.
