Manukau.

(from our ovtn correspondent.) A football roatcbthe last of the season, was played here on Saturday. The rivals for victory being the Levin and Manukau club 3. After a capital game the home team came off victors by, 9 points to 2. In the evening the local team entertained the visitors at a smoke concert in Mr Aitken's Hotel Our long hoped for haft is likely soon to be an accomplished fact, as Mr Bevan has let the contract for its erection ; the successful tenderers being Messrs Nees and Williamson Mr Allen of Wellington is the architect. Much disappointment is felt at the action of the Wellington Racing Club in refusing to pass the programme of the local club. I understand that it is the intention of the promoters to hold the meeting on similar lines to that of last year. On Thursday last a very pleasing entertainment was held in the. school-room For some time the children have been practising a Service of Song entitled, " Won by a Child." It was rendered to a large audience on Thursday as stated. The first part of the programme consisted ot songs, duets, etc. The

children then sang the Service of Song* under the leadership of Mrs Bethune. AH present expressed themselves highly pleased with the entertainment. That progressive institution the Bank of New Zealand, has opened a receiving office in Manukau, which will doubtless prove a great boon to. settlers tfho are so far removed from a Bank, and who cannot always find time to travel to Palmerston to do business* Late frosts have done a great deal of damage to early potatoes and other tender crops. Grass is growing apace- and stock generally iB looking well in £onsefluence. -
