Manawatu Rowing Club.
A special general meeting of the above club was held at Whyte's hotel Sample rooms on Tuesday, Oct llth at 8 p.m , to consider purchase of new boats. Twenty members were present, and Mr Stansell was voted to the chair. The question of new boats was fully discussed, and the following resolution passed: — That the club accept the loan of £85 offered and purchase Mr Hilliary's two blue boats and give an order for two new ones similar to the Rata and' Nikau to Mr Norton of Wellington. The committee reported that they had made arrangements for the outrigger " Dolly Varden" to be repaired, and expected her back from Wellington in a fortnight's time. Messrs Howard and McClosky were elected auditors for the ensuing year. The committee were requested to revise the present rules and present at a general meeting. Immediately after the general meeting the committee met to receive nominations and declare handicap for Hunter's cup. Twenty four entries were read as follows, handicaps attached : — Nye and Shadbolt, ser ; J. Symons, Edwards and Imrie, Bsecs ; Cowles F. Shadbolt and McLennan, 15secs ; Seymour Howan and Cook, 20secs ; Redmond, W. Stansell, C. Symons, Dudson, P. Williams and Silcock, 25secs ; Robertson, Bridcock, Forster and Betty, 30 sees ; Lewis, Chuch and Howard, 85secs. The competitors must notify +he secretary of acceptance on or before 8 p.m. Friday 21st Oct. when the boats will be drawn. The first race to be rowed on Friday the 25th Oct. The pair oared races for members elected this season, for Club's Jerseys were ''owed on Tuesday afternoon, six crews entered but owing to removal and sickness two crews were scratched In the firßt heat Dudson (stroke), Robertson (bow), beat Howard (stroke), Betty (bow), by four lengths No doubt the finish would have been closer had the latter crew gone i_ \ for more training. In the second heat F. Shadbolt ' (stroke), Bradcock (bow), beat Howan (stroke), Forster (bow), after a hard struggle by three lengths. 1 The final heat was won by F. ' Shadbolt and H. Bradcock who had more staying power than their opponents, Dudson and Bobertson
