Australian Strikes.

At the Broken Hill mines about 200 men are working.

The mine owners state that the Unionists will not return, therefore they are compelled to procure ncnUnionist labour. Those on strike declare this to be impossible, and claim to have beaten the owners.

A former employe ofthe Proprietary Mine at Broken Hill attempted to get taken on again, but was bailed up by j the pickets and pursued through the streets by a howling mob. He was rescued by troopers* and Fredk. Cox and Edward Keagh, leaders of the mob, were arrested and charged with assault, and sentenced to three months each. Otherwise, affairs at Broken Hill are quiet.
