The Prince of Wales and the Naval Exhibition.
The Prinoe of Wales presided at the final meeting of the oounoil, guarantors of the Naval Exhibition of last year, held at the United Service Institution, Whitehall. Among those present were Lord G. Hamilton, Mr Forwood, M.P., Lord Aloestor, Lord Brassey, Sir P. Leighton, Adm. Sir W. Dowell, Adm. Sir H. Stewart, Adm. Sir a. H. Hoskins, Sir G. H. Chubb, Sir G. Hornby (admiral of the fleet), Adm. Sir A. Phillimort, Maj. Edye, Capt. Sir A. Jephson, Lieut. G. B. Maltby, Maj. gen, Sir J. Cowell, Maj-gen. Crease, Lieut. Wells, Capt.. Washington, &c. — Adm. Sir William Dowell, as chairman of the executive committee, presented the report of the committees. — Sir G. Chubb stated that the net surplus was £47,010. — Lord G. Hamilton, M.P., moved a vote of thanks to his royal highness. — The Prince of Wales acknowledged the compliment, and expressed much gratification at the success of the exhibition. Not only had the guarantors not been called upon for their money, but a handsome surplus of nearly £60,000 -was available for the fund for relieving the widows and orphans of seamen and marines dying in the service. The exhibition bad shown people what the naval service was, and had tended to popularise it. Though it was only open six months the work extended over twenty months.
