» The ordinary monthly meeting of the Manawatu County Council was held at the council chambers, Wednesday, when there were present — The Chairman (Mr V. C. Ransom), Crs Hammond, Masters, Saxon and R. B. McKenzie. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The following resolutions were passed : — Resolved, " That the overseer be instructed to inspect the bridges on Hunts-line, and report at next meeting." Resolved, "'lhatan extension of time be granted to Messrs Stewart and Cook for metal to be carried to Rowe's siding, the work to te started on November Ist, provided they sign the contract at once." After the luncheon adjournment a special meeting of the council was held, when resolutions were passed striking a general county rate of onehalfpenny in the pound for the ridings of Sandon. Carnarvon, Kawakawa, and Awahou, and of fths of a penny for the ridings of Mt Stewart Waitohi and Campbell. The council then resumed its business. Resolved, " That Mr G. H. Luxford be informed that the council will not agree to fence the land in terms of his letter of the 9th of May, they will buy the land required providing he will sell at a reasonable price, and that the chairman be authorised to treat with Mr Lnxford for the same." Resolved, " That Mr Stokes and Mr Coyle be granted extension of time to complete their contracts to the end of the present month, when if not completed by that time the council will inflict the penalty." Resolved, "That a copy of Mr Bray's report on the state of the tram line be forwarded to Mr Brooks, and that he be asked to put the line in repair as suggested by Mr Bray." Resolved. " That arrangements be made with Mr Hoskins to collect all outstanding tram accounts." Resolved, " That the Overseer be instructed to get the water-table and drain deepened between the Sanson School gate and the creek, the cost not to exceed £4." Resolved, "That the chairman be requested to write to the Rangitikei County County Council, pointing out that there is no road on the Rangitikei side of the river connecting with any road on this side of the river between Scott's Ferry and the bridge at Bulls, although there are six roads leading to the river on this side. The Council, therefore, requests the Rangitikei County Council to open a road to the river to meet the road at the Kakanui ford." Resolved, " That tenders be called for working the Sandon-Carnarvon tram for the term of three years, the I same to be sent in by noon on the 13th July. Resolved, " That tenders be called for filling and draining on the Feild-ing-Awahuri road, near the hotel, and that Mr Owen, of Feilding, be instructed to find pegs and show the overseer the road line, cost of survey not to exceed £2 25." Resohed, "That the Chairman, Crs H. Hammond, and H. B. McKenzie be a committee to prepare ' conditions for leasing the tramway." Resolved, " That tenders be called for clearing flax, toi, and all scrub from the sides of the road Mr Matthew's farm on Mount stewart to Awahuri, same to be sent in before noon onthe 13th July.'-— Advocate,
