(Before Messrs T. Wilson, G. Nye, and J. E. Russell,- J's.P). Wednesday, March 9fch. Insulting Language. George Ash "was charged with using insulting language, at Shannon in a public place. The accused pleaded guilty, and after hearing some evidence as to the nature of the case, which showed that the defendant, being refused liquor at the Shannon Hotel, became very violent, and used the language complained of. The Bench inflicted a fine of £3, or in default one month's imprisonment in Wanganui Gaol ; costs 22s< allowance to witnesses,* 265. Cruelty to Animals. EliasCoory, a hawker, was charged with cruelty to animals, by driving a horse in a vehicile when lame. Evidence was given by Mi Dowsett, Alex Cameron and Constable Gillespie, and after personally inspecting the animal, the Bench fined the accused £1, in default 48 hour's imprisonment with hard .labour in Wanganui Gaol.
