Manawatu Rowing Club.

• f We are pleased to note the life and energy shown by the Committee of the Manawatu Bowing Club. The honorary Secretary has proved a. host in himself, and has so canvassed the district, that to day the club has a roll of fifty members. New men are not to be obtained without new boats and some time back an order was sent to 'Wellington for two more boats. These arrived by train on Tuesday evening and have given the Club much satisfaction. The boats are alike, being thirty two feet long by two feet five inches wide, and are clinker built of Singapore ceder, copper- rivetted with the bow and stern canvas, covered. They are outrigged, supplied with all the latest improvements, and are very j strong. Ihe outriggers are fitted with the patent D swivel rowlocks. The boats can be used for either single or double sculling, or as a pair oar, and have rudders and are seated to carry a coxswain. The seats are adjustable to the use the boat is put to. The builder is Mr Norton of Wei- i lington who has earned a first class j name for this description of boats, j The cost to the Club of the two boats landed at the shed is some £10. The club now owns five good boats, and they will have to take steps for the better care of them. The shed needs flooring to keep the damp from rising, and it is an improvement which will pay in the long run. We suggest' to the committee the advisability of getting this done as soon as possible The Club is doing well, and it is a boon to the town, and we trust the support that it is receiving will be long continued. • % •
