Manawatu Rowing Club.
At a committee meeting held on Tuesday evening it was decided to give two silver medals (Ist prize) and two club jerseys (2nd prize) for a pair oared handicap race to be rowe.d off at the latter part of January; after which three handicap swimming races will be held, the distances being 50, 75, and 100 j yards. The second series of soulling heats for Mr Hunter's Cup will be rowed off early in March in order that the final can be rowed on the Eegatta Day. The entries for the sculling will close on the 6th of February at 8 p.m. Ten new members were proposed and elected making the total on the roll close on fifty. An order has been given to Mr George Norton, boatbuilder of Wellington for two, combined pairoared and double sculler outriggers. The boats which are expected here in time for the March regatta are to be thirtyone feet long with sliding seats swivel rowlocks and to carry a coxswain. The club have made an arrangement with Mr Hilliary whereby the members have the use of two of his boats during the remainder of the season, the boats are now in, the hands of Mr Wearing who is giving them a coat of paint, they will be ready for use during the early part of next week.
