The Payne Family
By our exchanges we notice that this talented family, who appear here on Saturday, have had crowded houses up the coast. The N.Z. Times s&ys :— All the members ofthe Family are well trained. In part song-* and choruses they are exceptionally strong, and their voices blend charmingly. In the slave melody, " Steal away to Jesus," they excelled its original singers, the Fisk Jubilee Singers, and in " The Bells " their imitation of the clanging of the bells was exceedingly well done. •' s an example of the tricks of vocalism the " Pibroch " parfc song was capital the reproduction of bagpipe music being remarkably good. And the Evening Post remarks : — Decidedly the most delightful portion of the entertainment is the part-singing of the Family, their voices blending most harmoniously. " The Bells *'
at once establish them as warm favourites. The imitations of the cadences, whether of the joy bells or ot the passing doath knell, were exceedingly well done and elicited au imperative encore.
