Ireland.

• ♦ It cannot be regretted that Irishmen should show to the world how little unfitted they appear, in Ireland, to b 8 able to rule themselves. Now, and again, one strong man arises, who is able to reduce the iinpetuousness of hig compatriots, and then the chances of Home rule being granted to Ireland looks biighfc, but no sooner is he laid low than it is seen of what impossible atoms, the Irish party are composed. Mr Parnell, managed to make his party act as he desired, but no sooner is he laid in his grave, when the strongest of Ins supporters fall out amongst themselves. Some are ready to forget their reverence for their leader, so as to declare they are ready to expose his secrets in order to extort further concessions from those with whom lie had previously negotiated. Now Mr Dillon has stated his opinion that the Parnellites are traitors ! Yet a few months ago he was soliciting subscriptions to the cause. An Irishman is as much a paradox as Mr Parnell was said to be. He is an excellent Colonist, a capable help in any Government, a first class soldier and a born policeman, yet in Ould Ireland, he is unable to agree sufficiently long with his nearest neighbours to accomplish the alteration in the government of his own country which he asserts he so much desires.
