The Portuguese on arrival at Massi Kesse found it unoccupied, and they declare they are within the boundaries of their own territory when the British took up an offensive attitude and fired on them. It is admitted in Portuguese Government circles that the Portuguese expedition was wrong in going beyond Massi Kesse. It is rumoured that the British cruiser Magicienne has occupied Port Beira, Mozambique. Owing to the recent emeute, the Portuguese authorities have again closed the Pungwe Eiver. Lord K. Churchill has cabled tha the position of the Chartered Company's police at Umtheli is critical. The men are in want of supplies. He also declares that the immediate occupation of the coast by the British is imperative.
