Kereru.
(from our own correspondent.) About fifteen householders met at the schoolhouse on Monday for the purpose of electing a School Committee. Mr Home, Chairman of Committee, read a report for the year during which time the room has been erected and the school opened. The number on the roll is twentyseven, and the average attendance, so far, twenty-four. Ten householders had been nominated, and after considerable discussion as to who should conduct the election and how it should be carried out, they proceeded with the voting, which resulted in the following members being elected : — Messrs A. Beauchamp, J. Davies, J. P. Knight, J. Bettelain, H. Dunlop, J. Perry, F. Davies. A vote of thanks was then given the retiring Committee, after which Mr J. Davies was chosen Chairman for the ensuing year, and Mr A Beauchamp, Secretary. Mr T. B. Fleming, Assistant-Inspector of Schools, has arranged to examine this school on the Bth May. The down train was over an hour late on Tuesday night, through waiting, but in vain, for the New Plymouth train. Although there are ten tanks erected here by the Railway Company, and a windmill 80ft high, the water supply is insufficient for the engines, and they are contemplating building a wooden vat.
