The Trouble in Burmah.
« A despatch has been received from Lieut. Grant, stating that he believes himself to be the only European left alive in Munipur. The relieving forces, which include the whole of the Ghoorka army in Munipur, are hurrying to the fort captured at Thonal by Lieut. Grant. The Mirowzai have risen, and commenced a general attack. A strong punitive force is proceeding to Kohat to repress them. , News has been received that a rising of the Shans has taken place in Burmah. The British Agent and his escort were drawn into an ambush, five of of the party being killed and 11 wounded. Sharp fighting has taken place in the Samana Mountains with the Mironzai. Nine of the rebels were killed. It is reported that Senaputty, commander of the Manapuris, has fled to the jungle, taking his captives with him. It is now considered certain that Mr J. W. Quinton (Chief Commissioner of Assam), Mr Grim wood (British Besident at Munipur), Colonel Skene, Lieutenant Simpson, Messrs Cossins and Melville have been massacred, owing to instructions issued by Mr Quinton disclosing the hostility of the Marquis of Lansdowne, Viceroy of India, towards the usurper Jobraz. A report has reached Calcutta, that Mr J. W. Quinton, Chief Commissioner of Assam, has been be' headed.
