The Queensland Strike.
The correspondence impounded at the time of the arrest of the officers of the Shearer's Union is of a most revolutionary character and recommended a resort to arms. It also mentioned that the Union would indicate to the shearers in New South Wales when the time was ripe to adopt such a course. The Pastoralists' Union has received another proposal from the Amalgamated Shearers' Union asking that a conference be held to discuss the present difficulties. A large crowd of Unionists, estimated at nearly 1500, surrounded the railway station at Barcaldine on the arrival of the train conveying the labour prisoners. A force of 450 troops were present to restrain the mob from rescuing the prisoners, and the guard had bayonets fixed. The proceedings were riotous.
