Curious Potatoes.
V • We were asked the other day by Mr Rhodes if we had ever seen potatoes growing on the stalks above ground, in the position the so-called potato apples grow. We replied that we had not. Mr Rhodes then said that his brother, Mr C. E. Rhodes, who lives at Rata, had a crop of potatoes, a large proportion of which were growing tubers at both ends. We were unable to repress surprise, and hinted that we should very much like to see them. Mr Rhodes wrote to his brother, who has courteously supplied us with specimens, and there is no getting away Jrom the fact that at the point of the stalks, or haulm, a cluster of real small potatoes are growing. They appear to be growing in the. same manner as they do when in the soil. The habit is unusual, and testifies to the strength of the growth. We learn that the crop below ground is excellent. _^ _
