Borough Council.

The following report was read at the last meeting of the above Council :-* PUBLIC WOBKB COMMITTEE'S REPORT FOR MABCH. Mathers' contract for metalling Main street is well in hand and is finished up to the Awahou bridge. A progress payment on 356 yards at the rate of 80 per cent £33 4s 7d ; 86 yards for the new culvert on the Avenue road to be paid in full at 2s 7d per yard, £4 13s ; 30 yards of gravel for ferry approach at 2s 9d per yard, &i 15. George Trask has finished his contract for cleaning out the Avenue drain, 71 chains at Is per chain. This work is passed for payment, 71 chains at Is, £3 11s; Trask will finish cleaning out drain on Russell street in a fow days. C. Adin is making fair progress in cleaning out main swamp drain and will have it and drain No 2 finished by end of the month, J. Hillary has finished painting upper work of new punt, also removing Mr Gower's gate and spreading the 80 yards of gravel at the approaches on both sides of the river. It was agreed that the ferryman should be paid Is 6d per load for nine loads of gravel for the south Bide of the ferry approach. The above work is passed for payment. We beg to bring two drains on the Wirikino road under your notice. These drains should be cleaned out before the winter sets in. The above mentioned drains starts at Wintersgells road to main swamp drain, being 85 chains. The other drain starts from the main swamp drain to the ferry, being about 50 chains. The cost of cleaning out these drains will not exceed £6. It will be necessary to do this work to keep the road dry for traffic. It was found necessary to employ C. Spring a few days to assist the dayman in cleaning out the Awahou drain from the river to the Avenue culvert. The public works committee, with Mr A. Jonson, the late sexton, visited the Cemetery, and Mr Jonson agrees to assist and give all necessary information to Mr W. Alzdorf, who is to be employad to mark and number all the burial sites^on Cemetery plan. George Nye, Chairm n.
