The Flood.
Yesterday morning the Postmastei very thoughtfully posted up a notice that Woodville office ad\ised that a heavy flood would he down in the night. This prognostication has been fulfilled, and the river is running full, with every prospect of an overflow. The heavy rain on the east of the ranges is now showing its work, The Gorge line is blocked by slips, 15,000 tons having moved ; the road line is also blocked from similai causes. The railway line from Palmerston to Ashurst is also damaged, and the railway officials who went up the line to view the Gorge were stopped near Mr Cobb's residence. Part of the Wanganui section near Bonnie Glen has suffered, the line having been washed away. The heaviest floods ever known in Wanganui came down yesterday morning. Taupo Quay is partlj submerged, and danger threatened to the boat sheds. Several small bridges are reported to have been washed away, and many stacks came down the river whole. Some punts and many boats were washed to sea, and one smashed against the bridge.
