Sheep Sale.
Mess s Stevens and Gorton held their first salp, for this season, at Foxton )esterday. The day was mus. miserable, raining hard and naturally spoilt the appearance oi the sheep. There was a very good attendauce of buyers from Sandon, Carnarvon and the Horowhenua, and it is evident thatsheepare sheep nowadayp. The entries were particularly good, cose on 8000 sheep being penned, and every line except .hre -1 , were quitted under the hammer, and those not so, sold afterward^. Aa an indication of v ilues we give pirticulars of a few of the lots The first lot offered was a pen of 500 4 to full mouth ewes, some of the Herrington estate's culls, and the bidding started at 5/6 and ran rapidly up to 8/8. They were offered as a run of 100 or the lot, but the purchaser elected to take the lot. Mr Gower had a pen of veiy good woolly lambs which were eagerly oompeted for, and sold at 7/8. Mr James Robinson's cull ewe 1 -., a very nice lot, were sold for 8/6 after oapital bidding. lnother ppn of ewes, belonging to Mr Gower sold at 7/3 and a lot of very small cull lambs went for 4/- to 5/Over 800 store wethers, very mued, from the Moutoa estate were not much sought nfter, heing started at 7/-, but they were sold at 8/-. A lot of fresh full mouth ewes of
;Mr Barber's Were passed iri at 10/*-, buyers looking on the reserve as being too high, we believe they were sold afterwards at 8/G. The sellers should be, and were, * very well satisfied with the saj&f^fe* and there was noticed a remarkat^^r rise inthe value 'of sheep from this time last year, ewes making fully 8/- a head advance, and lambs 1/0 to 2/- a head.
