Death of Oddfellow.
Notwithstanding the oare and attention _hown him, the well known and favourite hurdler and st"eplechaser Oddfellow ded yesterday after an illness brought on by lockjaw of 12 davs. His career has been short brillant, and McElwain and O'Neill lose in him a valuable horso, which it will bo hard to replace, The short time h« was rnnning his wiiuvnis amounted to some £1500 and had he n<t died wou cl probably hava carried off more laurels. The following is an ephitomised list ef Ohlf'dlnw's performances since MrMcE'w - iin owu-d him: -1887: won two races at Willow Bank and two at Otaki ; fell in the Awahuri h ird 1 e race; ran 3rd at Foxton. 1888 : Won Feilding nack Hurdles and came second at the Taranaki meeting ; ran two seconds in the ■ Tuvd<ina Handioap Flat and Handicap Hurdles ; fell in the Wanganui Hack st°epleckase ; this closed his career as a hack. 1888 ; Oddfellow begin his car .or as a racer in tbe same year, running two seconds at Nam'er . F-nal Steeples and Consolation) ; at Wellingtou ho won the Final Steep'.s, and tbe secoud Spring Hurdles in AVanganui ; he came third iu tho Handicap lliinlFs at Palmerston on Boxing Dav. 1800 At Maw.ra ho fell in tlio Handicap hurdles and ran second the following day : ran second to A hua on both d 'vs at (he Wangaiiui Cup Meeting: scored two wins at Nupi'i* b _ting big fields with list ]31bs ; ran -hird at the Napier Part Meeting, Premium enmi"g in fir 4 ; on Easter Monday, at Feilding ran fourth to Catronul- ; won the AA T anganui Steeples, beating Orient who cam. in second ; whilst winning easiiy f<-U in the Hawera St. op'es ; won the Auckland Hurdle* oa ily but fell at the Steeplechase the same day ; won tho Hawkes Bay steeplechase, though only lauded the day before from ..uckland ; ran second in the AVanganui Spring fTni-licv ; .f: PfJojQ.ston rkn *or;ond iu -.!)"
