Hospital Board.
A special meeting of the Wan' gauui Hospital Board was held at Wanganui on Wednesday. — Present Messrs. Arkwriffht (chair,) Peat, Remington, Liffiton Macavtbur, M.H. R., McKenzie and Mourad.
The business of the meeting was to strike a rato. The chairman said expenditure had been £1450 3a lOd, and receips £1214 8s lid. There was, however, a balance in hand last year ; and this year they ha 1 a credit of £285 in the bank. The chairman moved that the rate be the same as last year leconded by Mr Macarthur, MH.R. and carried-with-out discussion.
The committee appointed to report on matters connected with the Hospital reported that the acconr modation for the staff was insufficient, and a small addition for the matron was recommended. The duties of night watching were too heavy on the present staff, and they recommended an additionul nurse being engaged. As to the use of stimulants the committee found the consumption had been large owin^f to the fact that in the past stimulant* had been given by under officials
without orders, ana they reconu mended in the future that, except in pressing cases, stimulants should not be given without a written order by one of the medical men. The hospital clothing, which according to the rules each patient had to wear, was running short, and they recommended procuring a new supply. Further, they suggested that a visiting committee should be appointed at each meeting, and one of these should visit the Hospital, once a week, making inquiries, and sign the visitors' book. As patien tg who are more properly case* for charitabe aid have been kept in longer than necessary they reconr mend that in future no patient b© admitted to or allowed to remain in the institution uulesi roquring medical treatment or nursing. — The r«* port was adopted. It was resolved, on. the motion of Mr Liffiton. That tenders be called for the addition to the Hospital in ao cor dance with the plans produced, and that the chairman, Messrs Feat, Parsons, and the mover be a com* mittee to accept leaders. On resuming at two o'clock, an application from the Taranaki Board, on account of Fred Potto and Mrs Wood, was considered, and the Board repudiated any liability, and referred the matter to the Board's solicitor.— Herald.
