Manawatu County Council.
Meetings ordinary and special were held by the Manawatu County Council on Saturday, there being present Crs Ransom (chairman), McLennan, Sanson, Saxon, Mitchell, Bobinsou, Hammond and McKenzie. The following resolutions were passed. . : " That the road overseer be instructed to post up, and to keep posted, a notice, in accordance with the Public Works Act and its amendments, at each bridge on roads in this county, warning the public that such bridges are unsafe for loads of greater weight than four tons." "That Mr Harris be informed that it is the intention of this counoil to purchase the property now in the occupation of the; council as county offices, within the sum stated in the j lease under whioh the property is now held."
" Tliat the Manawatu Koad Board be written to, and their attention drawn to the state of tho Oroua bridge near Awahuri, also requesting that something be done at once for the protection of th« bridge, mid to prevent accidents to travellers." It was said iv speaking to the motion, that it was quite time soinothiug was being done to save the bridge froui destruction, and fb prevent accidents by which the coi ucil might be Bubjected to actions. fflr damages. " That the overjeer be instnictel to have the roads through the Moutoa Estate defined, also the road line along the. river bank down to Piaka."
" That the AwaJiou be represented by one councillor and no more, the resolution to take affect at the next election of councillors." " That the portion of the Kawakawa Riding lying south-east of the Government railway from Foxton to Palmerston, be added to the Awahou Hiding, so as to equalise the valuation of the several ridings of the county.
The chairman w_as appointed a number of thi Chariable Aid Board in place of Mr Gower resigned. The council then adjournod to the 6th of May. — Advocate.
