TO THE EDITOR OP THE MANAWATtt HERALD*
Sir,— l see by the Evening Post that the contract is let for the Palmerston Sewerage "Works. If I am not misinformed I understand that the Sewerage is to be discharged into the Manawatu river at a point below Palmerston. If this k, the case, it is a matter that is likely to affect the whole of the settlers living on both sides of the river * including the township of Foxton, who draw their supply of water from the river. I think Mr Editor, if not already done, it is the duty of the Hor«whenua County Counc&^Wirokino Road Board, and the Foxton Borough Council to move in the matter at once, before it is too late and enter a protest against the Sewerage being discharged into the river, as the evil will increase as time goes on and the population increases. "We have from six to eight Flaxmills discharging their refuse into the river, and if this is supplemented with the Palmerston Sewerage wejshall have pea soup instead of pure water. I am, Yours &c , Foxton. 20th March, 1 890. We have already drawn t)ie, attention of the above local bodies to this nuisance, and trusted that before now our Mayor would have taken some decided action — Ed. M. Hebald.
Foxton.
