RESULT OF THE MEETING.

"We have just received a letter from Mr Gardner conveying the pleasing intelligence that by appoint* meat he had a meeting last week with the agents of the N. Z. Shipping Co. and the Shaw Saville line. The result has not been quite so good as was hoped, but still he has secured a concession which amounts to a large sum on the output of the district. Mr Gardner reports that the associated companies have agreed to reduce the rate of freight by ten shillings a ton, and he is hopeful that this may lead to a yet larger reduction in keeping with the wishes of the meeting.
