OTAKI HIGHWAYS BOARD.

» . Wednesday, July 13, 1881. The Board met at the office on the above date. Present— Messrs Simcox (Chairman), Hadfield, Kebbell, and M'Crae. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Theinwards and outwards correspondence was read. Mr J. Death came before the Board to complain of a nuisance caused by Mr Cireenough emptying the refuse water from his hotel, thereby causing a nuisance on the road leading to his (Mr Death's) house, as also throwing a eonside>ab!e quantity of bottles on to a vacant piece of land at the north end of bis hotel, and requesting that the nuisance »c abated; also, that the Board would place a few loads of metal on the road leading from the main road to his farm. Resolved, " That seven days' notice be given to Mr Greenough to abate the nuisance aomplained of, and to remove the accumulation, and that the Chairman be authorised to take legal proceedings under the Public Healths Act if Mr Greenough should fail to abate and remove the nuisance." Accounts passed for payment.— x. IJms, stationery sundries, 14s 4d j Russell Bros., advertising, &c., £4 13s 6d ; F. Bright, timber and fencing slabs, 16a 8d ; Messrs Waddell, M'Leod, & Weir, office door, 18s; total, £7 4s 6d. Propoaed by Mr Kebbell, seconded by Mr M'Crae, and carried, "That the ordinary meetings of the Otaki Road Board be held on the Becond Wednesday in each month at 2 o'clock p.m." j

PfiErARiNG —Mr John Higgie's horses, consisting of King Don, Monk, the Derby colt Chandos, and a couple of youngsters, will be trained in the neighbourhood of Air D. Scott's farm, Lower Eangitikei, and will be in charge of H. Copestako, .who informs me that a first-class training ground is obtainable there, equal, if not preferable, to anj thing available atWanganui. The colt Ohandos by Day Dawn— Alma, has been doing well since he became the property of Mr Higgie, and promises to make a bid for our next Derby.
