(rEUTER's TELEGEAJIB). Paris, July 14. : The anniversary of the French Republic was celebrated today as a public holiday throughout the country. Festivities were organised in all parts ot this city, .and passed off with great eclat. Telegrams are to hand today from Tripoli, announcing that certain emissaries, despatched by the French Government to the Governor-General of Tripoli, have been placed under arrest on their arrival at the capital. Calcutta, July 14. News has been received today from Afghanistan, reporting that Ayoub Khan is now at Ferrah, a city about 1 30 miles south of Herat, supported by a large body of troops. The Ameer's forces are still at Gerishk, and it is cxpectad that hostilities between the two armies -will shortly commence. Adelaide, July IG. A vessel has airived here from Mauritius, and reports that when she left that island no sugar was obtainable. Sydney, .luly 10. . A fresh case of small- pox has appeared in Sussex-street, in the heart of the city. The sufferer, a woman nnnied Kelly, has been transferred to the quarantine station.
