investigation he had made showed not the slightest ground for believing the statement of the prisoner's wife, upon which alone the man had been apprehended. Tbe prisoner was accordingly discharged. Kumara, Friday. The Ahaura Road Board office seal, and effects were seized|for rates illegally collected in 1877. Ahaura, Friday. The Judge of the Assessment Court, Grey County, ruled to-day that applications for land were not liable for rates under the Hating Act.
