A QUERY.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE MANAWATU HERALD. Sir — Can you inform me if it is competent for any retailer of drugs to announce himself as " Dr.," or can he recover for advice given ? Is not this likely to lead people astray ? I am, &c, Curious. fin reply to " Curious," w« may say that a heavy penalty is incurred by anyone practising without a diploma, as lives may be endangered through their incompetence. Kot long ago a doctor from America was driven out of Wellington, owing to his diploma being an American one (which are not recognised in this colony). Fees cannot be recovered at law by a man not legally qualified. Of course people are at liberty to employ homoeopathy, hydropathy, or any other system tney choose. Chemists are not allowed to take the title "Dr."— Ed. M. H.]
