The Wanganui Jockey Club Spiing Meeting took place on Saturday last, and was attended by about 3000 people. The first event was the

Ten horses started, and the race was well contested ; time, 2min 55£
Handicap Hubdle Race. £50 ; two miles and a distance, over eight flights of hurdles ; top weight uot to exceed 12sfc, and lowest not to be under 9st. Nomination, 2 guineas, to go the fund ; acceptance, 3 guineas, to be added to the stakes. Campbell's b g liully-for-you ... 1 Gibson's b g Littlesthought-of ... 2 Harrison's eh g Cossack 3 fcsloper aud Junius also startod, but the former fell at the first hurdle, whilst Junius came to grief at the sixth ; Cossack fell and threw his rider at the seventh hurdle, thus being compelled to take third place. The Hack Hurdle Race for £10, with entrance 1 guinea added, was won by Higgie's King Don, Juanita 2, Titokowaru, 3. Wanganui Stakes, £150 ; handicap; two miles ; second horse to receive £20 out of the stakes ; nomination 2 guineas, acceptance 3 guineas. D. Scott's eh g Haphazard ... I Powdrell's b m Queon of the Va'e 2 Brewer's g g Folly ... ... 3 Nine started. Folly went off with the lead, but Grey Mom us soon came to the front ; at tho mile post, .Isaac Walton got the lead, all the horses being well up. At the 1£ mile post, Haphazard took the lead, and kept it to the end ; time, 3min 50 J sees. Eailway Plate, £75 ; l£ miles ; entrance, 3 guineas. Day's b h Isaac Walton \ Scott's Haphazard 2 Quiulivan's eh h Redeemer ... 3 Ten started, and a good race resulted ; thus, 2min 5 5 sees. Consolation Stakes of £20 ; handicap ; 1 mile ; entrance, 1 guinea. Quiulivan's eh h Redeemer ... 1 Powdrell's b m Queon of the Vale 2 .\] 'Ivor's g g Grey Momus - . . 3 For this event live hoises contested. The meeting was highly successful, and is pronouueed one of the best ever held on the course.
