TO THE EDITOR OF THE MANAWATU HERALD.
Sir, — A.B an ©lector, permit me a few remarks in reference to an adver tisement addressed to me. As an electioneering document, or parody upon Dickens' immortal Sergeant liuzfuz, it is without a fault. Its high moral tone, its low inferences, its inflated style, and the venom every lino exude 9, render it almost sublime, Written by a former supporter of Mr Loudon's, it is a happy illustration of the usual inconsistency of renegades. Sir, hitherto I have nevci supported Mr Loudon. I never gave him a vote, or exchanged twenty words with him upon any one sub*
ject. His conduct has been inexcuv able, and most imprudent, but the candid and manly reparation he at' tempted to make, and for which there was no absolute necessity, daims^fc my sympathy, and if Mr Loudon^^ goes to the poll, I shall give him my vote, not so much because he ia the best candidate, us to express my dia-o-ust at the persistent mulice expressed for the base purpose of the moment. The paltry insinuations of self-in-terest, perverted principles, and party purposes, T paes with contempt, and, judging from the correspondence, I doubt if his most justifiable opponent will endorse to his own conscience, three months hence, the sentiments expressed in that advertisement, even if he does so now. - As I desire no hedge to fire from, I subscribe myself, yours, &c, J. A. Feereau.
