MEETINGS.
FOXTON RATEPAYERS. In accordance with a requisition signed by several ratepayers, a meeting was held at the Foxton Athenanini, on Tuesday evening last, •'' to consider the Auditor's report andthe balance-sheet." Although the hour fixed was 7 p.m., some difficulty was experienced in obtaining a Chairman, but at length Mr F. K. Crowther consented to preside, and the meeting was opened. The Chairman remarked that those who had called the meeting thought redress was needed, as the Auditors' report showed matters were in a very unsatisfactory state. A fair hearing would be accorded to all. Mr. Perreau read several extracts from the Auditor's report, as a ' moral refresher." lie said the report was suppressed, until after the late election, in order to influence votes ; for it was an indubitable cvi' dence of carelessnoss and incapacity (if no worse ) The Board had blamed the late Clerk, but the ratepayers held them responsible, and not the Clerk, lie thought the accouuts required explanation, and that no futuro election would be carried thro ugh like the last. He moved — "That a requisition be drawn up, signed, and presented to the Cqairman of the Local Board, protesting against tho Board taking over any liabilities in the shape of overdraft incurred by the lato Board." balance. sheet was correct. He could ' assure the ineuting that vouchers were forthcoming for every pound expended, and that tho balance-sheet fulfilled all the requirements of the Act, as regards details. Any ratepayer could gain information as to tho accounts at his office. A vote of thanks was givou to Mr TUynue for the information he hud afforded, also to the Chairman ; the meeting then adjourned.
