THE PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE. Express Special Service. The annual meeting of the Patriotic Committee was held on Thursday evening. The attendance was poor, only il members being present. A resolution was passed expressing sympathy with Mr R. Hebberd in the loss of his father. The secretary presented a statement of accounts, which sftowed that the district had more than met its allocation of £100 to the end of September and that a sum of £25 still remained to be paid in. The election of officers resulted in all the retiring officers being re-elected, these being as follows: — Committee, Messrs W. A. Adams, W. E. Bryant, C. A. Evans and E. H. Looms, and Mesdames W. Simmons, L. Pask, E. Challies and E. H. Looms; secretary, Mr Adams; auditor, Mr R. Pearcy. It was decided to end the next financial year on September 30. Mrs A. J. Henderson sought permission to hold a garden party in aid of patriotic funds. This was granted, and patriotic affairs in general were discussed. At a subsequent committee meeting Mr Looms was elected chairman. It was decided to hold occasional euchre and dance evenings, the fixing of dates being left in the hands of the chairman and secretary. PERSONAL. Mrs A. J. Henderson has received advice that her son, Private D. Henderson, reported missing in July, is a prisoner of war. Another son, Corporal O. Henderson, of the Garrison Artillery, was recently promoted to second lieutenant.
