WAKAMARINA MINE
UNEXPLORED SCHEELITE LODE. DOMINION- WIDE INVESTIGATION. The progress being made with the scheelite industry in New Zealand was reviewed by the Minister for Mines, Mr Webb. He said that since the Government made arrangements to take over the properties previousiy worked by the Glenorchy Scheelite Mining Company much had been accomplished. The Minister stated that the Mines Department was still investigating the unexplored portion of the Golden Bar lode at Wakamarina, Marlborough, and private parties were active at areas ln Otago. Discussing the Glenorchy undertaking the Minister said that for a b-egirining it had been necessary to concentrate primarily upon a development programme and already some suceess had been achieved. Such a programme called for the, recruiting of miners and the erection of huts and houses to accommodate them. The accommodation problem had been eased considerably. "Manpower still remains a problem/" said Mr Webb. "In response to an appeal many men have been secured and it has also been possible to obtain the release from military service of specially selected. men with the necessary mining experience. Many men attracted by the high price of scheelite have been forming small parties to work small claims independently and I am endeavouring to assist such parties." 17
