FRENCHMEN JOINING DE GAULLE. -P.A. Gable. CHUNGKING, Oct. 17. Chungking is rapidly becoming the headquarters of Frenchmen escaping from the occupied areas in the Far East hoping to join the Fighting French. Six have arrived during the last few weeks, including Squadron Leader Pierre Louyards, of the French Air Force stationed in IndoChina. He said the Japanese strength in Indo-China was only 20,000, most of whom, including the air. force, were concentrated in the Saigon area. He revealed that Allled submarines were active on the Indo-China coast, and had sunk many warships and transports in the vicinity of Camranh Bay, forcing the Japanese to abandon its as a naval base.
